Public Transport Could Be Brought To A 'Standstill' In Strike Action
Northern Ireland's bus and rail workers are to be balloted on proposed industrial action following an "insulting 0% pay offer".
Three unions – Unite, GMB and SIPTU – is asking its members to vote on possible action "up to and including a strike", with the first proposed day of action said to be Friday, 01 December.
If members agree, the strike would affect all public transport services in NI, including Metro, Ulsterbus, Glider and NI Rail.
According to a report by the BBC, the unions issued a joint statement, and said that the action would be "unprecedented in recent years and would bring to a standstill all bus and rail services in Northern Ireland".
It is understood that Translink has told the unions that they are unable to make any increased pay offer "in light of the constrained funding for public transport".
