Transport Unions Cancel Strike Action For New Pay Offer
NI's new Infrastructure Minister, John O'Dowd, has welcomed the news that public transport workers have suspended their next planned strike action on Thursday, 15 February.
Unions have announced that the latest strike action has been cancelled to allow ministers to time to prepare improved pay offers.
Welcoming the announcement, Minister O'Dowd said: "I welcome the suspension of the strike action planned for next week.
"Transport workers provide a very valuable public service and this is the right action to allow time to get around the table and discuss their pay.
"The Trade Unions are aware of the strain on public finances and particularly the under-funding of public transport services over many years.
"I am happy to meet with the Unions to discuss this important issue and to encourage them to reach a resolution with Translink management on their pay award as quickly as possible."

Belfast’s congestion has sparked a row with Metro bus drives who now threaten strike action throughout the city. Metro driver’s union, Unite, called on Northern Ireland Transport Minister Conor Murphy last week to meet promises he made to introduce dedicated bus lanes into the city centre to tackle Belfast’s morning traffic jams.
