Morrow Contracts fills requirements for top utility award
Gilnahirk-based Morrow Contracts has won a top award for the best street works contractor in Northern Ireland.
The Northern Ireland Roads Authority and Utilities Committee, (NIRAUC) a body set up to help ensure the quality of contractor's work, recently presented the award to Morrow Contracts Director John Morrow during a recent NIRAUC meeting in Belfast.
The Chairman of NIRAUC, Dr Andrew Murray, said: "Morrow Contracts is one of the leading and most respected utility companies in Northern Ireland. They have been installing and repairing electric, water, sewerage and telecommunications for nearly 30 years. I am impressed by the consistently high standards achieved by Mr Morrow’s company and with the quality of his presentation to the award panel."
NIRAUC was launched with the aim of improving street works standards in Northern Ireland. The award’s primary aim is to promote quality awareness amongst utilities and their contractors, in an effort to improve the condition of Northern Ireland’s roads following the installation of underground cables and pipes.
Dr Murray said: "I am encouraged by the level of competition amongst utilities for the award and, particularly, the high standards achieved by the participating companies. These companies are setting a high standard for the industry to follow and I look forward to further noticeable improvements on the ground and less disruption for the travelling public.
"Roads Service is pleased to be involved in this joint initiative with the utility companies."
This is the second year that, as an initiative to highlight the importance of continuing to improve the quality of street works, NIRAUC, in association with Roads Service, has organised the NIRAUC Quality Award, for street works.
Founded almost 30 years ago, Morrow Contracts is believed to be the first utilities-based company in the UK and Ireland to implement a certified integrated management system – linking quality, environmental protection and health and safety management.
