Balmoral Show 'Highlight Of The Farming Year'
The Balmoral Show has been described as the "highlight of the farming year", by First Minister Michelle O'Neill and deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly.
Around 110,000 people are expected to visit during the four-days of the Show.
The Ministers were given a tour of the Healthy Horticulture Marquee, viewing the various trade stands as well as the equestrian classes. They also visited the Christian Aid stand to hear about their 1km cycle challenge to raise awareness of the charity' work to support those in poverty.
First Minister, Michelle O'Neill said: "It really is the highlight of the farming year, particularly for those from our rural communities, with four days packed full of amazing food, entertainment - not forgetting the award-winning livestock.
"Every year the Show provides an opportunity to showcase the fantastic products available here in our agri-food industry as well as focusing on environmental issues."
Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly said: "We know that many people in the agri-community are embracing sustainable farming so it's great to see the new Sustainability Village up and running this year. It will host a number of companies who have already made the switch and are working in areas such as renewable energy, efficient energy solutions, environmental causes and recycling and waste reduction.
"We want to congratulate the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society (RUAS) for their hard work in delivering another successful event."

New Agriculture Minister attends Balmoral Show
The new Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), David Cairns, has today carried out his first engagement under his agricultural and rural development brief. Mr Cairns attended the Balmoral Show, at the Kings Hall in Belfast, to meet with some of the members from Northern Ireland's farming and rural community.

Farming Direct Payments To Be Made On 01 September
Minister for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs Edwin Poots, has announced that Direct Payments will be made on 1 September in full this year only, to help farmers with cash-flow issues caused by market disturbances. Minister Poots made the announcement at the 153rd Balmoral Show at the Eikon Centre in Lisburn.

Minister Reacts To Teachers' Union Ballot Threat
Education Minister Paul Givan has responded to the announcement by several teachers' unions that they plan to ballot their members for industrial action over 2024/25 pay. Earlier this year, the Minister provided funding to successfully resolve the long-running industrial dispute over teachers' pay for 2021-24.
