Pipe bomb defused near farming show
A pipe bomb has been defused in south Belfast close to a major farming event which starts today.
Detectives discovered the device in the front garden of a house just yards from the Kings Hall and Balmoral Showgrounds where the Balmoral Show is being staged. Officers were alerted by a telephoned warning on Tuesday evening.
Military explosive experts were called in and defused the bomb that was found under a hedge in Balmoral Avenue. A PSNI spokesperson revealed a number of items were taken away for further examination.
The Balmoral Show is one of the highlights of the Northern Ireland farming calendar.
Around 70,000 people are expected to attend the three-day show, which is organised by the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society.
Among the attractions this year in the Chariots of Fire display team, featuring stunts with ponies and sheep as well as show jumping, dog agility and falconry displays.

Farming Direct Payments To Be Made On 01 September
Minister for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs Edwin Poots, has announced that Direct Payments will be made on 1 September in full this year only, to help farmers with cash-flow issues caused by market disturbances. Minister Poots made the announcement at the 153rd Balmoral Show at the Eikon Centre in Lisburn.

Balmoral Show Gets Underway
Thousands of people are set to flock to the Balmoral Show today for the opening of the farming community's biggest agri-food event of the year. The gates opened for the 2019 showcase this morning, Wednesday 15 May, with over 120,000 visitors expected to browse the trade stands and livestock classes over the next four days.

Balmoral Show continues amazing success
Around 60,000 people are expected to have visited this year's annual Balmoral Show in south Belfast when it ends on Friday evening. This year's agricultural event, now into its second day, promises to be the biggest ever with numerous attractions and stands for visitors, both young and old.
