Appeal For Information After Phone Mast Arson
The PSNI have appealed for information in relation to the deliberate ignition of a telecommunications mast in west Belfast in the early hours of today, 24 June.
At around 12.15am police received a report from NI Fire and Rescue that its crews were battling a mast fire off Distillery Street. Police officers then assisted crews by closing part of the city-bound Westlink for a number of hours to ensure public safety.
In a statement, Sergeant Peter Tew said: "We are treating this fire, which caused extensive damage to this mast which remains upright, as arson. Our enquiries are continuing today. We’d ask that anyone with information or who would have dash-cam or doorbell video footage covering this area contact us on 101 quoting 17 24/06/24."
A report can also be submitted online using the non-emergency reporting form or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online.

Police Investigating Fire At 5G Communications Mast
An investigation has been launched following a suspected arson attack on a 5G communications mast in West Belfast. At around 9.30pm last night, Tuesday, 30 July, emergency services responded to reports of a fire at the Dairy Farm in the Stewartstown Road area. It is understood that 'significant damage' has been caused to the 5G communications mast.

Fire crews deal with separate fires in Co Antrim
Police are appealing for information following two suspicious fires in Co Antrim in the early hours of Friday morning. The first fire was discovered at a factory unit in north Belfast at around 12 midnight. It is believed the blaze started when paper inside the unit was set alight. Some windows and two other units were damaged in the fire.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

Attacks on fire crews place their lives in danger and put communities at risk, said Public Safety Minister Michael McGimpsey today. Condemning a further spate of attacks on firefighters in Dungannon and Londonderry over the weekend, the Minister said it was absolutely unacceptable for anyone to assault emergency workers.
