Translink Hosts Apprenticeship Event At North Belfast Boxing Club
Translink NI have held a special Apprenticeship Talk for young people from Dockers and Midlands Boxing Clubs in North Belfast.
The initiative highlights Translink's unwavering commitment to nurturing local talent and offering valuable career opportunities within the community.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the event, Michael Holmes, Project Manager at Translink, said: "We are thrilled to engage with the young people of North Belfast and showcase the incredible opportunities available through Translink's apprenticeship program. Our goal is to empower the next generation with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the ever-evolving field of public transportation."
Translink's extensive operations across Northern Ireland include 1,400 buses and 45 trains, supported by a wide range of infrastructure assets such as over 400 bridges, 360 signals, and 170 railway level crossings. This comprehensive network necessitates modern engineering facilities and a dedicated workforce, making apprenticeships a vital part of our strategy to maintain and enhance service quality.
Cooper McClure, Head Coach and Trustee Board Member at Midland Amateur Boxing Club (the former amateur club of Carl Frampton) added: "Translink's Apprenticeship talk is about more than just jobs; it's about building futures. Translink's apprenticeship program offers our young people a chance to gain professional qualifications, practical experience, and a pathway to long-term employment. We are grateful for their commitment to our community."
Translink apprenticeships are designed to equip individuals with lifelong skills, enabling them to secure permanent employment and gain professional qualifications.
Mickey Kelly, Head Coach at Dockers Amateur Boxing Club stated: "Partnering with Translink for this event offers a wonderful chance for our young members to explore promising career paths and understand the transformative benefits for them of Translink apprenticeships. Engaging with a renowned organisation like Translink can genuinely inspire our youth to aim high and envision a brighter future."
Translink's apprenticeship program provides a structured, four-year training plan across various engineering trades, including Bus Engineering (Technical and Body Trades), Rail Engineering (Technician Traction and Rolling Stock), and Infrastructure & Projects – Railway Engineering (Track) and Telecoms and Electrical Engineering (Signalling and Telecoms).
Apprentices with Translink are employed from day one, with competitive benefits such as paid holidays, a pension scheme, career progression opportunities, and practical on-the-job training.
The importance of promoting apprenticeships in North Belfast, where Translink has a strong presence, cannot be overstated.
The company's infrastructure and projects teams are involved from inception through to completion, ensuring the successful delivery of key developments like York Street Station which opened in April and the Belfast Grand Central Station due for completion Autumn 2024.
Translink is dedicated to delivering a positive impact on local communities by fostering inclusive engagement and offering meaningful career opportunities.
