22-Year-Old To Face 28 Charges Relating To Violent Disorder

A 22-year-old man is set to face a total of 28 offences relating to arson attacks and violent disorder in south Belfast.

The charges relate to public disorder in the Broadway area of Belfast on Monday, 15th and Tuesday, 16th July and arson attacks on businesses and property in south Belfast on Saturday, 3rd August. He was arrested in Belfast on Monday, 19th August.

He will appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court today, Tuesday, 20 August, to face charges including four counts of riot, four counts of arson, one count of arson with intent to endanger life, and one count of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, following an assault on a police officer.

All charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Heavy Snow Closes Over 80 Schools
Over 80 schools across Northern Ireland have been closed as the heavy snow continues to cause disruption on Tuesday morning. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, as the snow is continuing to affect many roads. Areas which have been majorly disrupted include Lisburn, Castlereagh and Carryduff.
