Two Men Arrested In Belfast For Counterfeit Currency
Two men have been arrested in Belfast on suspicion of possessing counterfeit bank notes. The arrests were made at Belfast docks around 8:00 AM on Wednesday, October 2nd.
According to Detective Sergeant Curley, the men, aged 26 and 39, were found with approximately £5,000 worth of counterfeit Bank of England notes. The arrests follow reports of the use of fake currency in several businesses in the Fermanagh and Tyrone areas between September 25th and 28th.
Both men are currently being held in custody at Antrim Custody Suite.
Detective Sergeant Curley urged the public and business owners to be vigilant when handling money and to report any suspicious activity or fraudulent behaviour to the police.
Detective Sergeant Curley continued: "There are a number of things to look out for regarding counterfeit currency, including, does the main printing feel raised, can you see a bold and clear watermark when the note is held up to the light, is the print clear, sharp and well defined? Some other things to look out for include checking if the colours are clear and distinct.
"Comparing a suspect note against a note which is known to be genuine is also a good way to check."
Anyone with any concerns regarding counterfeit notes is urged to call 101. A report can also be made using the online reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport. Alternatively, information can be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

Police raid banknote counterfeiting operation
Police have seized £250,000 worth of counterfeit banknotes in Newtownabbey. Two men were also arrested after the PSNI's Serious Crime Squad discovered the notes during a raid on a house on Tuesday. The forged notes included euros, Bank of England and local bank notes.
