Seven More People Prosecuted In Relation To Muckamore Inquiry

A further seven individuals will be prosecuted by the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) relating to alleged offences committed at Antrim-based Muckamore Abbey Hospital.

The decision from the PPS comes after the individuals were reported by police as part of ongoing investigations.

The offences include ill-treatment, wilful neglect, making a false entry and false imprisonment.

Each of the seven defendants has been issued with a summons for first appearance at Antrim Magistrates Court on November 5.

This increases the total of individuals prosecuted relating to the investigations to 15.

PPS Assistant Director Martin Hardy said: "The PPS has taken a decision to prosecute a further seven individuals in relation to alleged ill-treatment of patients at Muckamore Abbey Hospital. 

"This decision follows a thorough consideration of all the evidence contained in the file received from police in relation to its investigation into the medical facility. 

"The seven individuals are being prosecuted for a range of offences including the alleged ill-treatment and wilful neglect of patients contrary to the Mental Health (Northern Ireland) Order 1986. 

"The prosecutorial consideration of these matters has been complex and we sincerely thank the affected families for their engagement with us. They have been made aware of all key developments by the PPS."

Man Extradited From US Over Historical Child Sex Abuse
A 68-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for a series of indecent assaults on a child in the 1970s. Damien Desmond Anderson, originally from L'Derry, was extradited from the US to face justice. He was convicted of 12 counts of indecent assault against a female who was 11 years old at the time of the abuse.

The PSNI have welcomed the sentencing of an 89-year-old Belfast man for a significant number of non-recent sexual abuse offences. At Laganside Crown Court, Paul Dunleavy was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, to start in May 2026 at the conclusion of his current sentence.

Three Arrested in L'Derry For Drug Offences
Police in L'Derry have arrested three people and seized drugs worth an estimated £600. The arrests were made following a proactive policing operation in the city. On Monday, 18 November, officers observed suspicious behaviour from a 39-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman in the Strand Road area.

Pharmacist Sentenced For Drug Offences
A 27-year-old pharmacist from Belfast has been sentenced to 180 hours of community service for unlawfully possessing and stealing controlled prescription drugs. Adam Hanna pleaded guilty to charges under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the Theft Act 1969. The offences took place at a North Belfast pharmacy between January and March 2024.
