DETI begins search for new HSENI chief
The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) has begun its search for a new Chairperson for the Board of the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland.
The process will see a successor to outgoing HSENI chair, Liam McBrinn, who completes his term of office on 31 March 2005.
Enterprise Minister Barry Gardiner said the HSENI was committed to tackling the consequences of work-related ill health and injury, which is costing the local economy some £500 million each year.
“The Chairperson will play a pivotal role in leading HSENI in the strategic development of health and safety at work and build on the foundations already laid by the outgoing Chairperson, Liam McBrinn, and his colleagues on the Board," the Minister said.
“We hope to receive applications from men and women from a diverse range of backgrounds and I would encourage as many people as possible who meet the criteria to apply for this post,” said the Minister.
The current HSENI Board comprises of a Chairperson, a Deputy Chairperson and eight members. Mr McBrinn receives £13,335 per annum (currently under review) for 1½ days work per week.

SF Calls For Action On NI Mental Health Services
Sinn Féin has called for more to be done to improve mental health services across the north of Ireland. The party's mental health spokesperson, MLA Órlaithí Flynn, made the call after the release of the Registrar General's 2023 Annual Report which has highlighted an increase in deaths by suicide in 2023.
