Police Make Appeal Following North Belfast Arson Attack
An appeal for information has been made by the police in north Belfast after three children and two adults were forced to flee a house following an arson attack.
Police received a report shortly before 11.55pm on Monday night, 02 December, that three windows had been smashed and paint had been thrown at a house in the Glenrosa Link area. Three tyres of a car were also slashed.
A second report was made 15 minutes later, at 12.10am, that the same house and a car were on fire.
Police attended the scene, alongside members from Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who extinguished the fire.
Inspector Adams said: "We believe at this stage a container of rubbish was set alight at the front of the house, where two adults and three children were inside. Thankfully, no one was injured during this attack.
"At this time we believe the suspect is a man, of skinny build, wearing a dark coloured coat who made off prior to police arrival.
"Enquiries are ongoing and the incident is being treated as arson. We are appealing to anyone with any information or to anyone with CCTV or dash-cam footage that could assist the investigation to get in touch on 101 quoting reference number 1955 of 02/12/24."
White Ribbon Charter Signed At City Hall
A pledge never to condone or remain silent about violence against women, known as the White Ribbon Charter, has been signed at City Hall by the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Micky Murray.
The signing forms part of the council's wider commitment to support anyone who has been a victim of, or affected by domestic violence and abuse, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
Belfast is accredited as a 'Safe City' for ongoing partnership work to support those who experienced domestic violence, while the council also holds platinum status in Onus' workplace charter on domestic violence.
Police Charge Man With Drug Offences In L'Derry
A 40 year-old man has been charged with a number of drug offences by Police in L'Derry.
The offences include being concerned in the supply of a Class A controlled drug, possession of a Class A controlled drug and possessing criminal property.
The charges follow the search of a vehicle by officers from Derry City and Strabane District Support Team (DST) in the Infirmary Road area on Monday, December 2.
A follow-up search of a house in the city was conducted where a quantity of suspected Class A drugs, cash and drug paraphernalia were seized.

The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Man questioned about 1988 murder
A man has been arrested in connection with police inquiries into a murder in 1988. The body of Lily Smyth, 66, was found in her flat at Moveen House in Dunmurry on October 9, 1988. The pensioner had been strangled. A police spokesperson said that a 43-year-old man had been arrested and is being questioned at Antrim Police Station.

Many Arrests In Gardaí Drugs Raids
A total of 45 people have been arrested in the past 48 hours in Gardaí a crackdown on the sale and supply of heroin and 'crack' cocaine in the Dublin region. The operation, which involved Garda drug units from Kevin Street, Pearse Street and Store Street stations, resulted in 150 charges being brought, according to Gardaí this morning.
