Trading Standards issue dry cleaning advice
The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment’s Trading Standards Service has issued advice to consumers and proprietors to help raise standards regarding dry cleaning services.
The advice follows a survey carried out across the north west which revealed:
Raymond Dolan, Enforcement Officer, said: “We are concerned that consumers may be discouraged from pursuing disputes with dry cleaners regarding poor service, damaged or lost garments on account of the unfair terms and conditions.
"Traders offering dry cleaning services are legally obliged to treat garments or such like with reasonable care and skill and have them ready for collection within a reasonable time."
Mr Dolan said it was not acceptable for a trader to use unfair terms and conditions in "an attempt to avoid legal liability for any negligence when garments are entrusted to them to carry out a service".
"Consumers encountering difficulties are strongly advised to bring these to the attention of a manager or the proprietor of the business, preferably in writing", he added.
Anyone wishing to make a complaint or requiring advice on matters connected with dry cleaning services should contact Consumerline on 0845 600 6262.

- a wide variation in the contract terms and conditions either given to consumers or displayed on the premises
- only a small percentage of the owners surveyed were members of a trade body offering a consumer redress system
- the majority of dry cleaners clearly indicated the prices charged for services to consumers.

Derry forest fire brought under control
Fire-fighters in Londonderry have managed to bring a major forest fire under control. The fire broke out in the Broughderg Forest close to Six Towns, near Draperstown, around 3pm yesterday. Approximately 90 fire fighters from across the province were involved in the operation, and the fire is reported to have spread to an area of around 40-acres.

NI Temperatures To Be Over 20 Degrees This Weekend
Temperatures in Northern Ireland are expected to hit over 20 degrees this weekend, according to the Met Office. Sunny spells are expected from Friday, 16 June, until Sunday, 17 June. It is to remain mainly dry, however there may be some light patchy rain. Temperatures are expected to reach 21 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.

Investigation Into South Belfast Fire
An investigation has been launched into a fire at a former primary school in south Belfast. The Fire Service confirmed they were called to the blaze at the school on School Road in Newtownbreda at about 22:00 on Sunday. It is understood the building was badly damaged in the fire.
