Derry forest fire brought under control
Fire-fighters in Londonderry have managed to bring a major forest fire under control.
The fire broke out in the Broughderg Forest close to Six Towns, near Draperstown, around 3pm yesterday.
Approximately 90 fire fighters from across the province were involved in the operation, and the fire is reported to have spread to an area of around 40-acres.
A spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue service said that the lack of water in the area due to the recent dry weather along with strong winds, made the conditions more difficult for fire-fighters tackling the blaze which was fanned by the wind.
It is not yet known how the fire started, and an investigation into the cause is to be carried out.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has introduced a new online tool to help residents assess their home fire safety. The Home Fire Safety Check coincides with Fire Safety Week, which runs from September 30th to October 6th. The initiative aims to reduce the number of house fires in Northern Ireland.

Fire crews bring Co Armagh blaze under control
A bush fire which threatened to destroy large part of Slieve Guillion Forest Park in County Armagh has been brought under control by firefighters. Over 100 firefighters were called in to tackle the blaze, with teams arriving from Lurgan, Dungiven and Magherafelt.

Tollymore Gorse Fire Sets Mountain Ablaze
A large gorse fire in a scenic area of Co Down has provoked an appeal by a local politician. SDLP leader and South Down Westminster candidate Margaret Ritchie has asked for anyone with information about a gorse fire at Tollymore Forest Park to pass it to the police immediately.

Lord Mayor condemns attack on fire crew
The Lord Mayor of Belfast has condemned the latest attack on members of the Fire Brigade. Councillor Tom Ekin was commenting on the attack on fire crew members who were called to Colin Glen Forest Park on Sunday night. When they arrived they were threatened by about 40 youths and pelted with bottles and stones.
