BCC Unveils Reconnected Belfast Park Plans
Belfast City Council is holding public information sessions next week in north Belfast to showcase design plans for the Reconnected Belfast project, which will enhance Waterworks and Alexandra Parks.
Following a public consultation earlier this year, these drop-in sessions will allow the public to view the updated plans. The sessions will be held at:
• The Cleansing Building, Alexandra Park (Castleton Gardens entrance) on Thursday, February 27th (4 pm to 8 pm)
• Gate Lodge, Waterworks, 3G pitch, 17 Cavehill Road on Saturday, March 1st (10 am to 12 noon)
• The Cleansing Building, Alexandra Park (Castleton Gardens entrance) on Saturday, March 1st (12:30 pm to 2:30 pm) The Reconnected Belfast project, funded by €13.5 million from the PEACEPLUS programme, aims to improve shared space and connectivity in the parks, reducing severance issues between communities. PEACEPLUS is a cross-border funding programme supported by the European Union, the UK and Irish Governments, and the Northern Ireland Executive.
Proposed redevelopments for both parks include upgrades to entrances, paths, lighting, signage, play areas, bridges, and pitches. Refurbishment and safety work are also planned for the reservoirs.
Waterworks Park could gain a new community space, dog exercise area, basketball court, events space, toilets, and a Changing Places facility. Alexandra Park proposals include a community events space, toilets, and a Changing Places facility.
