Dog Breeding Regulation Review Launched
DAERA Minister Andrew Muir has announced the commencement of a recruitment competition to appoint a Chairperson and two members to a newly established Expert Advisory Group.
This group will undertake a comprehensive review of the current regulations governing dog breeding in Northern Ireland.
As part of their remit, the Expert Advisory Group will also be tasked with considering the regulation of canine fertility clinics. The appointed members will serve for a six-month period, during which they will conduct the review and produce a report outlining recommendations for future action.
Minister Muir emphasised his commitment to animal welfare: "Since coming into office I have consistently outlined my commitment to improving animal welfare. As part of my forthcoming Animal Welfare Pathway, I wish to see actions to ensure that dog breeding practices in Northern Ireland reflects best practice and are enforced by robust legislation."
He expressed his pleasure at launching the application process, highlighting the opportunity for interested parties to play a significant role in shaping the future of dog breeding regulations in the region. The Minister stressed the importance of ensuring that legislation is effective, promotes the highest standards of animal welfare, and aligns with international best practices.
The Expert Advisory Group will leverage their expertise to formulate recommendations concerning the regulation of dog breeding, thereby supporting DAERA's broader commitment to enhancing animal welfare standards.

The deadline for receipt of completed applications is 10 am on Monday, 19th May 2025.
