Work Set To Begin On £750k Craigavon Pedestrian And Cycle Bridge

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins MLA has announced that construction work on the replacement Moylinn East pedestrian and cycle bridge in Craigavon is set to commence on Tuesday, 6th May 2025.

The initial phase of the £750,000 project will involve ground preparation and the construction and strengthening of the bridge abutments. The installation of the new bridge structure is scheduled to take place later this summer.

Minister Kimmins expressed her satisfaction at the project moving forward. "This replacement bridge represents a £750k investment in active travel infrastructure for the Craigavon area and I am sure the local community, who have been using a temporary route since the original bridge was removed in 2023, will welcome the start of the construction phase."

She highlighted the importance of the bridge for local connectivity. "Once completed the bridge will reinstate an important link in the pedestrian and cycling network to local school and amenities, the nearby leisure centre, Craigavon City Park and the Rushmere Shopping Centre."

The Minister also reiterated her department's commitment to active travel. "Active travel is one of my department's seven Foundations for a Better Future and this project demonstrates my commitment to improving overall active travel provision in the area, such as the recently reconstructed segregated cycle tracks and footpaths along a section of the Craigavon Black Paths network, between the underpass at South lakes leisure centre and the Drumgor Centre."

The Department for Infrastructure has advised that temporary traffic management will be necessary as the work progresses, and the public will be kept informed of specific dates. Efforts will be made to minimise disruption, and the public is asked to adhere to any temporary arrangements in place for the safety of both the public and construction workers.

Subject to favourable weather conditions, the entire project is anticipated to be completed by early September.
