£430,000 Resurfacing Scheme To Commence On Old Dundonald Road

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed a substantial £430,000 investment in road infrastructure with the announcement of a resurfacing scheme for Old Dundonald Road in Belfast.

The project, covering approximately 0.6 kilometres, will involve carriageway resurfacing from the roundabout at Dundonald Ice Bowl to Kings Road at Granton Park. Work is scheduled to commence on Friday, 25 July 2025.

Minister Kimmins stated: "This substantial investment in Dundonald demonstrates my continued commitment to maintaining and enhancing our road infrastructure. The improvements will deliver significant benefits for local residents and road users and I would like to thank residents, businesses and commuters for their understanding while these essential works are delivered."

To facilitate the necessary works, a full road closure will be implemented on Old Dundonald Road over two weekends:

• From 20:00 on Friday, 25 July until 06:00 on Monday, 28 July 2025.

• From 20:00 on Friday, 1 August until 06:00 on Monday, 4 August 2025.

During these full weekend closures, a signed diversion route will be in place, redirecting traffic via Knock Road – Upper Newtownards Road – East Link Road. Following these closures, lane closures will be in operation to complete the scheme.

The Department for Infrastructure has programmed the work and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience to the public and local businesses. However, road users should anticipate some delays and are advised to allow additional time for journeys in the vicinity of the works, and to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

The completion of the scheme is expected by Sunday, 10 August 2025, subject to favourable weather conditions. The Department has assured that the public will be kept informed of any changes via the Trafficwatchni website.
