DUP Lagan Valley MLA Diane Forsythe has welcomed the Department of Justice's public consultation on proposed legislation to criminalise the creation and sharing of deepfake content. Ms Forsythe stated that the move is "long overdue and essential to protecting victims from digital exploitation and abuse." She highlighted the "vile and cowardly form of abuse" that deepfakes, particularly those of a sexual or degrading nature, represent, causing devastating emotional and psychological consequences for victims.
