Man Extradited From Ireland To Face Sexual Assault Charges
A 41-year-old man has been extradited from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland today in connection with sexual assault and handling stolen goods offences that occurred in Belfast in April 2019.
Sergeant Davey from the PSNI’s International Policing Unit commented: "We continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners to locate and return persons sought for extradition. The Police Service of Northern Ireland is committed to tackling violence against women and girls and today’s extradition delivers on our assurance of the relentless pursuit of perpetrators and supporting victims."
The man, who was originally arrested by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) at the time of the offences, had skipped bail and has been a wanted person since. He was located and arrested in the Republic of Ireland on Thursday, 21 June 2025, on foot of an extradition warrant. Extradition proceedings were finalised on Thursday, 31 July, resulting in his return to Northern Ireland.Sergeant Davey from the PSNI’s International Policing Unit commented: "We continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners to locate and return persons sought for extradition. The SDLP Opposition Health Spokesperson, Colin McGrath MLA, has said the Executive is risking strike action by failing to act on nurses' pay. This follows the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) entering a trade dispute with the Executive over its failure to implement the agreed 3.6% inflationary pay rise.
