Couple escape injury in flat fire
A couple have escaped injury after their flat caught fire in north Belfast last night.
The fire, which occurred at around 10pm at the flat in Fianna House in the New Lodge area of the city, was spotted by a woman from her home in Little George's Street, half a mile away.
Fire crews were immediately dispatched and searched the area before spotting smoke stains above a window on the 12th floor of Fianna House.
They located the flat inside the building and forced their way inside were they found the two occupants, aged 41 and 45, asleep on sofas.
It is believed the fire started from a chip pan however it had burnt itself out because of a lack of oil. A smoke alarm had been fitted but had been turned off.
The couple were treated by ambulance staff but did not need hospital treatment.
