'Learning Works' seeks new recruits at Odyssey
Adults who lack confidence about their literacy and numeracy skills have been urged to go to the Odyssey area in Belfast for the forthcoming 'Learning Works' campaign.
The two-day event is designed to address the shortcomings of Northern Ireland's adults when it comes to the 3Rs. According to research, one-in-four adults in Northern Ireland now has problems with reading, writing and maths.
Through 'Learning Works', Job Scene Northern Ireland and the Department for Employment & Learning (DEL) are offering free courses aimed at providing training, improving employment prospects and enhancing quality of life.
One adult learner, Daryl, who is working towards an Essential Skills qualification, said: "I have gained qualifications which will enable me to apply for jobs knowing I meet the criteria required. My future plans are to return to a job with good prospects, possibly as an IT tutor."
The Learning Works event, which has free entry, is open from 10am to 4pm on Thursday September 23 with a special evening opening from 5pm to 7pm. The event opens again on Friday September 24 from 10am to 3pm.
A free bus will run from City Hall to the Odyssey every half hour from 9.30am.
