Clothing factory announces job cuts
A clothing factory in Co Londonderry has announced it is to scale down its operations with the loss of 260 jobs.
Management at Fruit of the Loom in Co Londonderry said it was scaling down operations in Campsie and its sister site in Buncrana, Co Donegal as "part of a major restructuring of its European operation" over the next five years.
The majority of work at both sites is now set to be transferred to a factory in Morocco after both Irish bases became "no longer competitive".
Union members met with management on Thursday saying that the timescale of the restructuring plans was the only thing they could be thankful for. "It has always been in the back of people's minds and you always think 'when will it come'," a union spokesperson said.
"When it actually does come, it's still a shock. However, it's probably better to hear it like this as we have a timeframe to work to - that's the only thing to be thankful for."

Work Underway For Free Hospital Parking In Northern Ireland
Work has begun at several hospital sites across Northern Ireland as part of the preparations for the introduction of free car parking in May 2026. Health and Social Care Trusts have been actively preparing for the implementation of a new traffic management system since the Hospital Parking Charges Act was passed in 2022.

North Belfast Fire Started 'Deliberately'
A fire at an old factory site in north Belfast was started deliberately, according to the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS). Residents had to ensure their windows and doors were closed as firefighters were putting out the blaze in the Oldpark Road area on Wednesday.
