Woman 'severely traumatised' after robbery ordeal

A woman in her 50s has been left severely traumatised after she was bound and hooded during a robbery at her south Belfast home on Tuesday.

The incident, which occurred between 10.20am and 11.30am, saw the woman forced back into her Beechlands home by a man armed with a knife and hammer following a knock at the front door.

The victim’s hands and feet were tied and a cushion cover placed over her head in a livingroom at the back of the house before the man demanded money. The robber then fled left after stealing a number of cash cards and taking the victim’s red VW Polo – registration number HJZ 9022.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen this car in the Beechlands area or may have information about the robbery.

They would also like to speak to a man described as 5ft 6in tall of stocky build with shaved or receding hair who was wearing shiny navy tracksuit bottoms and trainers. He was also dressed in a green fleece with a circle design on the chest.

Anyone who can identify this man or can assist the police investigation should contact CID at Musgrave Street on 028 9065 0222.
