Gale force winds hit NI
Gusts of up to 60mph were recorded in some parts of Northern Ireland overnight as storms swept across the British Isles.
While Northern Ireland escaped the worst of the stormy weather, heavy rain still affected many areas of the province including the Foyle Bridge in Londonderry. It was forced to close because of both high winds and rain, and was reopened on Thursday morning.
The Republic of Ireland faired less well with 5,000 people thought to be affected by an electricity blackout in cities and towns along the south coast of the country.
The worst-affected areas were thought to be Waterford, Cork and Dublin, with fallen trees and floods causing havoc for motorists and public transport users.
Forecasters predict more strong winds and rain tonight however not on the scale of Wednesday.

'Yellow' Warning As Heavy Rain Expected
The UK Met Office has issued a 'yellow' weather warning for Northern Ireland for Sunday, when heavy rain and strong winds are likely to cause localised flooding across the region. Wet and windy weather will cross the UK from the west during Sunday. Rainfall accumulations of 15 to 25mm are expected quite widely with 35mm or more locally.

Snow Gives Way To 100mph Gales As Winter Bites
Widespread disruption caused by last week's heavy snowfalls has this week given way to gale force winds and heavy rain. Gusts of up to 105mph battered parts of Ulster on Tuesday night and the early hours of Wednesday forcing the closure of several roads and leaving around 6,000 homes without power.

Yellow Warning For Strong Winds Issued In NI
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds throughout Northern Ireland. The warning comes into place at 1am on Wednesday, 24 January, until 2pm. Gusts of up to 50 to 60mph are expected. The high winds may affect public transport services and delays are expected.

High Winds Batter Northern Ireland
NI is in for a battering with high winds prompting the Met Office to issue an amber weather warning for Thursday. Irish Sea crossings are likely to face delays as winds will be strongest in the north, while the rest of the country will also see gusts of 60 to 70mph.

The Met Office have warned of heavy rain and very strong winds across Northern Ireland today, Wednesday 16 February, as Storm Dubley moves across the country. Two weather warnings are in place – a Yellow warning for wind from 1pm and Amder warning for wind from 2pm.
