Workshop to explore community development experiences
A workshop which will explore community development experiences in Derry and in London’s black community is to take place at the University of Ulster’s Magee Campus on Tuesday.
The event, which is being co-hosted by INCORE, the peace and conflict research and practice unit at the University, and The CRESCO Trust, a Londonderry project aimed at combating social exclusion, aims to highlight workable methods proven to have enhanced community development practice.
Helen Lewis, co-ordinator of INCORE’s Local International Learning Project (LILP) said: "We want to facilitate partnership and cooperation throughout all parts of our community and between all communities.
“This way, we can aid development, deal with marginalisation, and reinforce grassroots peacebuilding in Northern Ireland. By learning from each other, and from diverse experiences elsewhere, we can improve and advance community development work.”
The workshop’s keynote speaker will be Tunde Banjoko, Chief Executive of LEAP, an organisation which works primarily with the black community in London.
He will reflect on obstacles faced by the black community and the methods used to overcome these. Tunde’s presentation will be followed by a panel discussion involving local community development practitioners.
