Wayne McCullough loses title fight bid
Belfast boxer Wayne McCullough has failed in his bid to win a second World title belt following defeat at the hands of Mexican WBC super bantamweight champion Oscar Larios in California last night.
The former WBC Bantamweight holder gave a brave display but lost on points 118-109 118-110 116-111.
Renowned for his tenacity and endurance McCullough’s recent lack of competitive action showed as he tired in the final third of the contest and did well not to succumb to a fierce 10th round battering.
It was expected that the 34-year-old would retire if he lost this latest fight, however speaking on Friday the Shankill Road man said he had no intention of quitting.
"I'm not even thinking about retirement," said McCullough. "I showed that I can still take on the very best."
His victorious opponent is now set to meet WBO super-bantamweight champion Joan Guzman on 9 April.
