Police launch murder inquiry in south Belfast

Police have launched a murder inquiry following the death of a man in south Belfast.

The victim, who is thought to be of Chinese origin, was found with serious head injuries at a flat in Hampton Drive following report’s of a disturbance at around 3am on Tuesday.

The man was given first aid but died at the scene. Two other injured men were taken to hospital and later arrested however their injuries are not to be life-threatening.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact detectives on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Elsewhere, a woman has escaped serious injury after a gunshot was fired at a house in Portrush on Monday night.

The woman was sitting in her living room alone at around 11.45pm when a shot was fired through the window. She was later treated for shock.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Machete Attack In South Belfast
A man received serious facial injuries in a machete attack in south Belfast. The attack, which occurred at around 2.15am on Sunday in Glenmachen Street, left the victim with a serious facial injury. Police later had a report of a man seen with a machete in the Sandy Row area. Police have appealed for any witnesses to the attack to contact them.

Appeal For Information On Serious Assault In Rostrevor
A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a serious assault in Rostrevor on Sunday, 31 March. At around 9pm, police received a report that man, aged in his 20s, had received serious head injuries after he fell to the ground following an altercation at a licensed premises in the Bridge Street area.
