Policewoman dies following road crash
A policewoman has died in hospital after the armoured Land Rover in which she was travelling crashed near Desertmartin in Co. Londonderry yesterday.
Four other police officers in the vehicle were injured in the crash - three seriously - though one escaped with minor injuries.
Police said that the vehicle was the second in a convoy of five Police Land Rovers that was travelling along the Desertmartin to Moneymore road when the accident occurred.
Elsewhere a former police officer was killed when his car hit a tree near Ballymoney in Co. Antrim.
Police said that his vehicle had been followed after it had failed to stop. The man was named as 50-year-old Trevor Barr from Drumnamallaght.
The fatal incident has been referred to the Police Ombudsman's office.
In a separate collision involving two vehicles, a woman was killed and two were injured on the Hillhead Road near Ballyclare in Co Antrim.
