Catholic church attack linked to republican parade

An attack on a Catholic church in Ballymena overnight has been linked with a republican parade in the town on Tuesday.

Paint bombs were thrown at the Church of Our Lady in Harryville and is the third such attack in recent weeks.

Earlier in the evening, the republican parade, which was organised to commemorate the introduction of internment in 1971, passed off peacefully in the mainly nationalist Fisherwick estate in the town.

Some stones were later thrown at the junction of Suffolk and Sommerfield Streets in the town, however no-one was injured.

Police praised both republicans, and loyalists who staged a protest against the parade, for their restraint.
