Couple escape injury in pipe bomb attack
A young couple have escaped injury in a pipe bomb attack in east Belfast early this morning.
The incident occurred at around 2.20am when the couple were woken by a large explosion outside their house in Cheviot Avenue.
The front window was blown in and parts of the device were also found in the garden and street.
Police said they are keeping an open mind about the motive however said they do not believe it is related to the ongoing loyalist feud.
Alliance’s East Belfast assembly member Naomi Long described the attack as "reckless".
"It is no thanks to the attackers that no-one was injured and it is clear from the fact that a number of properties were damaged that the perpetrators have shown scant regard for the entire local community," she said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
