Police re-appeal for information following disturbances

Police investigating disturbances in east Belfast last month have re-appealed for information.

At the height of the disturbances in the Cluan Place and Clandeboye Gardens area on the 20th and 21st August, up to 200 people were involved in rioting. Bottles, bricks and bolts were thrown, and Army Technical officers also made safe a device that was removed for further examination. One person was arrested for disorderly behaviour.

Chief Inspector Mike Ellis, in charge of operations for east Belfast, called on anyone with information to contact the police at Strandtown.

"Many people in that area wanted no part in the disorder and had concerns for themselves, their homes and their businesses," he said. "This is not an issue that can be solved by policing alone. We need those in the community who can help to come forward and we will do all we can to bring those responsible before the courts."

Police would like to speak to anyone who can help identify any of the people pictured in the photographs from CCTV footage. It is believed these people may have information that could help police with their enquiries.

Detectives are also appealing to those involved in the disturbances to come forward and to speak to officers directly.
