Bus manufacturer announces £15m investment plan
A County Antrim bus manufacturer has announced a £15 million investment plan which will create 170 jobs over the next three years.
The announcement by Wrightbus from Ballymena will see the company employ over 1,000 people when all posts are filled.
Northern Ireland Secretary Peter Hain described the news as "very significant" and a boost for Ballymena.
"This is the type of investment that is needed in the local economy to allow Northern Ireland to compete successfully in the fiercely competitive global marketplace," he said.
North Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Philip McGuigan also welcomed the news.
"I certainly welcome this investment and the prospect of adding 170 jobs to the workforce," Mr McGuigan said. "This will have a significant impact on not only the local economy of North Antrim but on the North as a whole."
This latest announcement is the latest success for the firm which has continued to grow during its 15 year history, tuning it into one of the UK's major bus suppliers and exporting around the world.
Last year, the company secured an order worth £66.5 million which created nearly 150 jobs.
