Two men appear in court charged with attempted murder
Two men have appeared in court today charged with attempted murder following an attack on a man at the weekend.
James Gerard McGrillen, 25, of Glenveagh Drive, and Martin Deeds, 24, of Tardree Park, Belfast were remanded in custody after a detective told Belfast Magistrates Court on Tuesday that he believed he could connect them to an attack on a 22-year-old man at Carrigart Avenue on Sunday.
The victim sustained serious injuries to his head and chest and is currently being treated in hospital.
The two men were remanded in custody until 15 November.
Elsewhere in an unrelated incident, a man has been shot in both legs in a paramilitary style attack in Newtownabbey.
The 42-year-old victim was walking along Queens Crescent, Carnmoney, at about 10pm on Monday when he was confronted by four masked men.
He was then shot in the legs, but managed to raise the alarm by staggering to a nearby house.
Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A man has been shot in both legs in Co Armagh. A group of men forced their way into a house in the Meadowbank area of Craigavon and dragged the victim outside and shot him in both legs. The incident happened on Thursday night. The 26-year-old man has is being treated in hospital. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Two men have been arrested in connection with a shooting attack in L'Derry. A man was shot in the leg at a premises in Central Drive on 27 March. A 26-year-old and a 49-year-old man were arrested on Wednesday, 19 April. They have been detained and are being questioned by the police.

Co Fermanagh man suffers broken nose in robbery
A Co Fermanagh man has suffered a broken nose after being assaulted by two men at his home in Enniskillen. The 65-year-old man was confronted by two men who forced their way into his home on Sunday. They then assaulted him before robbing his home. It is understood that a sum of money was taken during the robbery.
