Hospital rally attracts thousands
A protest in Omagh town centre called to support the retention of acute hospital services in the town has attracted thousands of people.
Shops and schools in the area have closed as the rally takes place.
Health Minister Shaun Woodward proposed earlier this year that acute services including surgery and accident and emergency would be withdrawn as Tyrone County Hospital is downgraded.
Services are to be provided by a new hospital in Enniskillen.

New £115million Acute Services Block Opens At Ulster Hospital
The first phase of the new £115million Acute Services Block (ASB) at Ulster Hospital in Dundonald has been officially opened by Health Minister Robin Swann. Following a tour of the new facilities Minister Swann said: "Today marks another major achievement for the hospital and the South Eastern Trust.

Woman plucked from sea off County Down coast
A woman was rescued from the Irish Sea off the County Down coast by the Newcastle lifeboat on Thursday evening. It is understood that the woman, who was treated in the Downe Hospital following her rescue, had fallen into the sea from the promenade in Newcastle.

DoH Secretary Outlines Measures To Address Health Service Pressure
The Permanent Secretary of the Department of Health (DoH), Peter May, has outlined the measures being taken in an effort to address increasing pressures on the Health Service. Alongside this work to mitigate current pressures, action is also needed for the longer term to put the health and social care system on a sustainable footing.

Sod Cut At Ulster Hospital Development
The first sod has been cut at the new £232m development at Ulster Hospital, Dundonald. Health Minister Edwin Poots attended the ceremony today, which marked the start of the next stage of redevelopment of the hospital. In this latest investment, a new generic ward block will be constructed along with a new acute services block.
