Worker fracas outside Dungannon factory

Police have had to intervene in a dispute between two groups of migrant workers outside a factory in Dungannon in County Tyrone.

The groups of workers, believed to be from east Timor and Lithuania, clashed outside the factory in Killyman Road on Thursday evening.

The BBC reported that one person had to receive hospital treatment for a head injury, and that one person was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon. However, the individual arrested was later released on police bail.

It is not known what sparked the dispute outside the factory in which up to 50 people were involved, but a local councillor has called for mediation talks between the parties involved.

Elsewhere, in the Newtownabbey area an 18 year-old-man has been treated in hospital for a gunshot wound to his lower leg following what police described as a paramilitary-style shooting.

The incident is believed to have occurred in a pedestrian underpass at Devenish Drive, Monkstown at around 8pm on Thursday 8th December.
