Injured dog may not have had throat cut
Police have reported that a six-month old puppy believed to have had its throat cut in a violent attack, may have suffered the injuries through its own collar.
It is also believed that the animal may have had the injuries for some time.
Earlier, it had been thought that the animal had had its throat cut in a vicious act of cruelty, and then thrown over a fence in the Cliftonville Avenue area of North Belfast.
The incident was reported to police at around 9.30pm last night and the dog was immediately taken to a veterinary officer for treatment.
After an examination, it has since been said that the injuries may have been sustained some time ago, possibly by the dogs collar being too tight.
The puppy has been described as a black Labrador/collie cross and approximately six-months old.
Police have asked for anyone who may have been in the area at around 9.30pm and witnessed anything suspicious to contact them in North Belfast.
They have also appealed for anyone who may own the dog or know of the whereabouts of its owners to contact them on 0845 600 8000.

A 68-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for a series of indecent assaults on a child in the 1970s. Damien Desmond Anderson, originally from L'Derry, was extradited from the US to face justice. He was convicted of 12 counts of indecent assault against a female who was 11 years old at the time of the abuse.

Hero Army Dog Handlers Honoured
Murdered soldiers who worked with specialist 'sniffer' dogs during the Northern Ireland Troubles have been remembered. The 'Red Paw' and its work across Northern Ireland was the subject of a special memorial service held in England at the weekend. It was in honour of the six dog handlers and two sniffer dogs killed in Northern Ireland.

L'Derry Dogs Offered Free Microchipping
Dog owners in the city of L'Derry are being encouraged to take advantage of a free dog micro-chipping service being offered by the Dogs Trust. The Trust will be offering the service across a range of locations this week. The Mayor, Cllr Kevin Campbell said it was a great opportunity for dog owners to avail of the free service.

Pitbull terrier seized from GAA player's home
The USPCA has seized a pit bull terrier believed to be involved in an international dog-fighting ring, from the home of a well known GAA player. The animal was taken from Tyrone GAA player, Ger Cavlan following a planned operation by the PSNI and the USPCA.
