Petrol bomb attack in West Belfast
A house in west Belfast has been the latest to be targeted in a spate of attacks believed to be connected to the murder of 39-year-old Gerard Devlin.
At around 9pm last night, a petrol bomb was thrown through a downstairs window of the house in the New Barnsley Crescent area of the city.
A woman who was in the house at the time of the attack was not injured. The property suffered minor scorch damage.
This attack follows a number of other arson attacks in the area, over the past week.
Superintendent Peter Farrar, has today praised the residents of Ballymurphy for their efforts to return a sense of normality back to the area.
He said: "Last night was quiet in Ballymurphy with no report of incidents.
There was a petrol bombing incident at New Barnsley Crescent, a neighbouring estate, which we believe could be connected to recent events.
"So while there is work to do, there has been a noticeable improvement in relations in Ballymurphy and I would like to thank everyone for their efforts.
"It is obvious that the Community in Ballymurphy has recognized that violence will help no one.
"It is vital that the Community works together and in this particularly sad period for the Devlin family. Police will continue to be present in the area."
Gerard Devlin, 39, was fatally stabbed during an incident in Whitecliff Parade, Ballymurphy, last Friday.
Two men, aged 18 and 23, are due to appear in court later today facing charges of affray, and the 18-year-old faces a further charge of attempted murder.
Two other men have already appeared in court accused of the killing.
