Man shot in west Belfast attack

The family of a 17-year-old man, who was injured during a shooting in west Belfast this morning, have claimed that the incident was linked to an ongoing feud in the area.

Wayne McComb suffered a gunshot wound to his leg as he walked along the Whiterock Road area of the city just after 8am.

It is understood that two men tried to pull the victim into a car, but when he managed to escape, the men fired a shot.

Mr McComb was taken to hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The victim's brother Ned, witnessed the attack from his bedroom window. He said: "As soon as he got out of my sight I heard a loud bang and I thought he was dead.

"Wayne would probably have been taken away and tortured and we would have found him dead a couple of weeks later.

"There is going to be someone else dead. There is more or less a bounty on our heads."

Ned McComb said the shooting followed an attack on the family home in Glenalina Park last week and an assault on Wayne and his father, Jim, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Tensions in the Ballymurphy area have been running high since the fatal stabbing of Gerard Devlin in the area last month.

It is understood that Mr McComb may have been targeted due to a link with the Devlin family.

Detectives have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
