Police appeal for information on armed robbery in Newry
Police in Newry are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery in the city yesterday morning.
A male, carrying a black rucksack entered the shop on Hill Street at around 11am and asked a member of staff to get an item of jewellery out of the window.
As she was doing this, the man produced a black and silver coloured handgun and threatened her, demanding that she place other items of jewellery into the bag he was carrying.
The robber proceeded to threaten another member of staff before making his escape up Hill Street.
The thief is described as being in his 30's; around 5' 5" in height and of thin build.
He is said to have sharp facial features, a pale complexion, with dark, cropped hair and a receding hairline.
He was wearing a dark jacket with light coloured panels down both sides, beige trousers, a white shirt and a tie.
Police have asked for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information relating to the robbery, to contact them in Newry on 02830 265500 or 0845 600 8000. Detectives can also be contacted anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
