Taxi firm owner released on bail over deception charges
The owner of a taxi firm has today appeared in Londonderry Magistrates court, charged with 11 offences under the proceeds of crime act.
James Christopher Kelly, 42, the proprietor of Nippy Taxis, from Tamneymore Park in the Waterside area of the city, was one of 15 people arrested by the PSNI during organised searches on houses and offices in Wednesday.
Mr Kelly is accused of committing crimes dating back to November 1999.
He is alleged to have obtained over £37,000 by deception, from the Housing Executive and is believed to have been dealing in counterfeit cigarettes. He was also charged with using fraudulently branded trademarks.
During the hearing, a police constable said that he believed that he could connect Mr Kelly to the charges.
The defendant was released on bail and is due to re-appear before the court on April 25.

Prominent loyalist campaigner Willie Frazer has been arrested for breaching his bail conditions. The 52-year-old was arrested on Monday at about 19:30 in the Portadown area. He is expected to appear in court today. Bail conditions were imposed following charges linked to union flag protests earlier in the year.
