Kilkeel woman escapes abduction attempt

Police in County Down have appealed for information following an attempted abduction in the early hours of this morning.

It is understood that a 23-year-old woman was on her way to work when she was approached by two males in the Riverview area of Kilkeel.

The men pulled up alongside the woman in a dark-coloured car and asked for directions to Newcastle.

One of the men then tried to pull her into the vehicle, tearing her handbag from her grasp during the struggle.

The victim managed to break free and made her way into Riverview Park where the men proceeded to follow her.

She eventually managed to escape by going into a field.

One of the men is described as having short, curly, blonde hair, was wearing glasses and may have spoke with a foreign accent.

Police have asked for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information relating to it, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
