Couple gagged and bound during east Belfast robbery

Police in east Belfast have appealed for information after a couple were assaulted by robbers in their home at the weekend.

The attack happened at around 2.30am on Saturday, when three masked men, one armed with a hammer, confronted the man and his wife in their house in the Tillysburn area in the east of the city and demanded money.

The robbers dragged the man to the ground and proceeded to hit him around the head and face with the hammer.

The woman was also punched in the face several times.

The attackers then gagged and bound the couple then ransacked the house before escaping with with an undisclosed sum of cash and jewellery.

It is believed the burglars entered the house through a back door.

Both victims suffered bruising and were left badly shaken by their ordeal.

Couple escape in East Belfast petrol bomb attack
Two people have escaped injury after a petrol bomb was thrown at their East Belfast house in the early hours of this morning. The couple were in their house, on Uniondale Street, when the device was thrown in through a front window. While both escaped injury in the attack, their house was extensively damaged in the fire.

Elderly man injured in robbery
An elderly man is being treated in hospital after he was attacked during a robbery at his home in Lisburn on Friday. The man's wife also suffered shock during the incident which occurred at the couple's home on the Causeway End Road early this morning.
