Man questioned in connection with Moffatt murder
Police in Coleraine are continuing to question a 57-year-old man on suspicion of withholding information in relation to the murder of a pensioner five years ago.
Norman Moffatt, 73, was fatally stabbed at the junction of Railway Road and Circular Road in the town on January 26 2001, as he was returning home after buying his morning paper. He died from his injuries two months later in hospital.
The man, who has not been named, was arrested at his home in Coleraine yesterday morning.
The arrest comes after a television appeal for information and a reconstruction of the murder on the BBC's Crimewatch UK programme last month.
During the programme, detectives revealed that Mr Moffatt was believed to have been the victim of mistaken identity and that the killer may have intended to target a local paedophile.
Detective Chief Inspector Nigel Kyle, who is in charge of the investigation, has said that police are continuing to follow up on the responses, which they have received from the recent appeal and are doing everything possible to catch those responsible for Norman Moffatt's murder.
Anyone with any information relating to the murder, should contact police in Coleraine on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
