Police hunt for escaped prisoner
Police are carrying out a man hunt for a prisoner who escaped from custody yesterday.
James Joseph McEvoy, 27, from the Newry area, was on compassionate leave to attend a funeral, when he made his escape.
He was last seen getting into a white coloured car at a petrol station on the Newry by-pass.
Police believe that the car may have crossed the border into the Republic of Ireland.
James McEvoy has been described as around 5' 11", of medium build with fair hair and blue eyes.
Detectives have said that he is currently serving a jail term for causing grievous bodily harm and should not be approached.
Anyone who may have seen McEvoy or who know of his whereabouts, should contact police immediately on 0845 600 8000 or on anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111. Alternatively, they should call the emergency number on 999.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Shots Fired At House In Belfast
A man and woman have escaped injury after shots were fired at a house in south Belfast. They were inside the property in Powerscourt Place when the attack was carried out at approximately 10.25pm on Wednesday 31 October. Two shots were fired and two windows were damaged.

Ambulance damaged in brick attack
A brick has been thrown through a window of an ambulance in Dunmurry. The incident happened at around 9.50pm on Wednesday. While the driver escaped injury, police condemned the attack saying it had the potential for more serious consequences. This is just the latest in a spate of attacks on ambulance crew in recent times.

TWO elderly Protestant sisters have escaped injury after a petrol bomb attack on their East Belfast home. The women, aged 73 and 79, escaped injury after a passing police patrol discovered a fire at their home and forced their way into the house in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Northern Bank robbery accused bailed
One of the people facing charges in connection with the Northern Bank robbery has been released on bail. Dominic McEvoy, 23, who gave an address of Mullandra Park, Kilcoo, faces two charges of false imprisonment and one of robbery in connection to the Northern Bank raid in December last year.
