Power restored to NI homes after electrical storms
Around 10,000 homes are having power restored today following blackouts caused by yesterday's thunderstorms.
Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) have reported that the electricity system was struck 178 times, with the worst effected area being Carrickfergus in County Antrim.
Two houses in Bangor, County Down, were also struck by lightning, with one property being seriously damaged after being struck on the roof.
Alan Hamill, from the Fire and Rescue Service, commented on the Bangor incident.
He said: "The lightning had actually punched quite a substantial hole through the tiles of the roof.
"It caused quite substantial damage to the roof and to the internal ceilings of the house."
Other homes had electrical sockets blown and telephone lines were also damaged
during the storm.

Approximately 50 construction jobs are to be created as part of a £50million project to develop 900 new homes in Comber, Co Down. Northern Ireland homebuilders Hagan Homes has started construction work on the first phase of the 'Enler Village' site on the Newtownards Road, which includes the development of 17 new homes.

Injuries After Electricity Poles Cut Down
Two men were taken to hospital on Monday evening after electricity poles were attacked and cut down in west Belfast. A 25-year-old was arrested after the incident, which left 1,400 homes without electricity. The NIE structure at the substation in the Glen Road/Suffolk Road area was cut down just before 9pm last night.

Two Teens Die In Co Down Road Crash
Two teenagers have been killed and another is in a critical condition in hospital after a car crashed into a wall in Rostrevor, Co Down. The vehicle left the Kilbroney Road, hit a wall and landed in a field just before midnight on Monday. It also struck the wall of a house and a home heating oil tank caught fire, leaving the house badly damaged.

Power Restored In Lurgan
Power has been restored to homes, businesses and schools after the electricity supply went down in Lurgan, Co Armagh. A contractor caused damage to a high-voltage cable in the Union Street area at around 9.15am on Thursday. Northern Ireland Electricity Networks said the power was restored at around 11am.

Engineers Work Overnight To Reconnect Electricity Supply
All but some 400 homes and businesses have had their power restored following damage caused by Storm Eleanor. It is understood that engineers worked throughout the night in an effort to repair damaged networks and reconnect homes and businesses across NI. Over 25,000 customers lost power at the height of the storm.
