Gold award for NI Fire and Rescue Service
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service has won a gold award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for their commitment to keeping their fire fighters safe.
Commenting on the award, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Peter Craig said the honour reflected the ongoing commitment to the health and safety of all their personnel and added that safety was an important part of their working day.
Speaking earlier today, newly appointed Health Minister, Paul Goggins congratulated the Fire and Rescue Service on winning a RoSPA Health and Safety Gold Award.
He said: "This is a tremendous achievement for the Fire & Rescue Service. Fire-fighters face highly dangerous situations every day. It is a tribute to their professionalism, discipline, training and management that, given the hazards they face, their care for the health and safety of their people has been recognised as being of the very best."
The Minister added: “I want to add my congratulations and those of my Department to the Service on the achievement of this prestigious RoSPA award. It is entirely consistent with their reputation for the highest standards of performance and safety and a credit to all concerned. Well done.”
The Health and Safety Award is due to be presented at an awards ceremony in Birmingham.
