Mini-tornado hits Buncrana

A mini-tornado has struck a County Donegal town, causing substantial damage.

Ardavan Square in Buncrana, was hit by strong winds just after 7pm last night, leaving homes, cars and trees seriously damaged.

It is understood that a local weather station had no warning of the storm, which is understood to have only lasted a few minutes.

A spokesman for the Tornado and Storm Research Organisation said that tornado's while not particularly frequent in the region were not unknown.

Last year, a tornado struck the villages of Aghalee and Rasharkin in County Antrim causing damage to houses and cars.

More than 100 primary six and primary seven pupils at a Belfast school have been told not to attend school after an arson attack at the weekend damaged classrooms. In all three classrooms at St Anne’s primary school in Dunmurry were destroyed in a fire causing damage estimated at a quarter of a million pounds.

Family escape injury in petrol bomb attack
A family have escaped injury following a petrol bomb attack on their home in Co Antrim early this morning. Police called to the house at Dunvale in Ballymena at around 12.30am discovered two petrol bombs had been thrown at the property.

Pair Charged Over South Belfast Burglary
Two men aged 19 and 20 have been charged in connection with a burglary in south Belfast. A third male, aged 17, remains in police custody following the break-in at an address in Oakwood Court overnight on Wednesday 19 February.
