County Down man admits to killing girlfriend
A County Down man today admitted to killing his girlfriend because she said that she did not love him any more.
David Jones, 37, from Lismore Avenue, Bangor, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 41-year-old Pauline McConnell in January 2005.
Ms McConnell died due to a single stab wound to the chest, inflicted by Jones.
Downpatrick Crown Court, which was sitting at Laganside, was told that after the incident, Jones had telephoned the emergency services claiming to have "murdered" his girlfriend.
The Prosecution QC today told the court that when police arrived to the scene of the crime, Jones was still holding the knife and told officers: "I killed her. I killed her. She is definitely dead."
The judge, Mr Justice Deeny decided to reserve sentencing until next week saying that the case was "grave and unusual" and that he required more time to consider all the material.
Speaking outside the court Ms McConnell's ex-husband Derek said that he was disappointed at the judge's decision, however added that he wanted closure for his children and would "like to see justice done."

PSNI Appeal For Information - Images And Videos Of Violent Disorder
Anyone with any information, including images and videos, relating to violent disorder in Belfast is being urged to submit it to the PSNI's Major Incident Public Portal. Following a third night of disorder in the city, Temporary Assistant Chief Constable, Melanie Jones, condemned the "horrendous scenes".

Friday Was The 'Hottest Day Of The Year'
New figures released by the MET Office reveal Friday (19 July) was NI's hottest day of the year so far. Castlederg in Co Tyrone recorded a temperature of 30.1C. However, it wasn't the highest temperature in the UK, with Porthmadog in Wales reaching 31.4C.

A man who was so drunk he does not remember killing his best friend has been jailed for at least seven years. Leon Robert Paul Johnston, from Ballydugennan Villas, Toomebridge, stabbed Michael McLaughlin, 24, four times in his Hillhead Road flat near Castledawson on August 8, 2010.
