M&S 150 jobs boost for Northern Ireland
Retail giants, Marks and Spencer, have today announced that around 150 jobs are to be created in Northern Ireland.
It is understood that both full and part-time staff are to be recruited for most of their local stores throughout the province, with an estimated total of 4,000 new staff to be taken on throughout the rest of the UK.
The announcement comes as the company published a trading report, which revealed that overall sales were up by 10.4%, with food sales increasing by 9.2% and general merchandise increasing by 11.7%.
It is understood that the reason behind the recruitment of such a large number of staff is due to the increase in the Marks and Spencer's Simply Food stores, following the £38 million acquisition of 28 outlets from frozen food retailer Iceland earlier in the year.
Commenting on the announcement, retail director Anthony Thompson said that stores were getting busier, which had meant a major increase in the workload.
Mr Thompson added that Marks and Spencer now needed to employ more people to ensure that their quality service is continued to be consistently delivered to customers, and added that the company promised that its new recruits would be fully trained and would receive a good salary and benefits package.
